I think Cherche Midi is the hottest new brunch in NYC. (FYI, I wrote this month’s ago. Now, it’s someplace else).

Brought to you by the restaurant group that also runs Balthazar, Minetta Tavern and Pastis, Cherche Midi gives you ever thing you would expect from that caliber of restaurant.

First of all, it’s pretty gorgeous inside. Just like all of their restaurants. If you’re trying to impress someone, you can’t go wrong dining at any of them. Unless that person hates all things classy, vintage or French. And in case, do we really want to be friends with someone like that?

Second, the food is really tasty. It’s not lite fare, mind you. And there aren’t a lot of traditional breakfast options. It’s more like Steak Frites, Salad Nicoise and variations on Eggs Benedict. Get your yogurt and granola somewhere else.

The Prime Rib burger reminded me a lot of the famous burger at Minetta Tavern. Patty is enormous, juicy, simply seasoned. And who cares about the rest. This burger doesn’t screw around. Sure, it has lettuce, tomato and onion. But you’re not paying $24 for all that noise. You’re there for the beef.

Cocktails were delicate, subtle and containing heaps of mysterious ingredients. If you are able to recognize all the ingredients in your drink, that means you’re dining at TGI Fridays.

In conclusions, if you’re fairly hungry, in the mood for a little morning boozing or evening schmoozing in a lovely, elegant setting (maybe it’s someone’s birthday? Or maybe because it’s a Tuesday?) Cherche Midi is the place for you.
